How to tell family?

Hey there. I'm new here, and after an appointment with the urologist today, was confirmed as having testicular cancer. I'm 31. I now need a CT to check if it's spread, and then an operation to have the affected testicle removed.

What im struggling with is how to tell my family. I know it will really upset my parents, particularly my mum who suffers from depression and anxiety. I really don't know where or how to begin.

Would be keen to know how other people have handled it.

Thanks

  • Hello Suivezgeo,

Welcome to Cancer Chat although I’m sorry to hear the reason that brings you here.

Breaking the cancer news to our loved ones can be really difficult, more so when they are already dealing with problems of their own like your mum so I hope some of our lovely members who have been in this situation before will be along shortly to offer you some advice and support.

Also, if you are based in the UK it might be worth giving Samaritans a call as they might help you over the phone to find a way to talk to your family: www.samaritans.org/.../contact-us

And please know you are welcome to post here anytime that you are worried, want a chat or just need a vent.

    All the best,

    Renata, Cancer Chat Moderator
