Help and Advice for my Mum

Hello all,

This is is my first post on this forum, but I've been following some threads relating to my situation.

My Mum has been diagnosed with cancer. They found a mass of 7cm in between her lungs and have since found a mass which is possibly ovarian cancer, and also a mass in her stomach. She is in agony with pain- cocodomol (zapain) and tramadol haven't worked, so she's on 10mg of morphine, two twice a day. This isn't touching the pain either- can we increase the dose? I know we should contact the GP but overnight seems a long time to wait.

I'm finding this so difficult, I wish it were me going through this- I can't see much of a future for me anymore. Mum is in so much pain, and every time we get news it's awful. Everything is taking so long to sort out- and we haven't even been told where the primary cancer is coming from and treatment to consider.

Any help would be amazing. God bless you all. X x x

  • Welcome to the forum Andy,

I just wanted to welcome you to the forum and reply to your post as you were asking for some advice.

Morphine is very strong and it is not advisable to change the dose without speaking to a medical professional first. Did your mum's medical team give you any contact numbers so you can reach someone out of office hours if you needed to? If not, I have just found The Christie Hotline which is available to patients and carers for advice/management on the side effects and complications of cancer treatments. Their number is 0161 446 3658, so do give them a call if you are unable to get through to anyone else.

I'm sorry your mum is in so much pain at the moment but as I've mentioned above do not touch or change anything to do with your mum's treatment until you have spoken to someone as it is very dangerous.

    Best wishes to you both,

Thanks so much for the telephone number- that's very helpful.
