Confused

Hi there,

Three days ago my 92 year old nan told me that cancer in one lung had spread over the course of a year to her chest.  She didn't tell me that she was diagnosed a year ago as she didn't want to worry anyone.  She doesn't know what stage she is in, what type she has, and how long she has left - and doesn't want to know.  I know she has lived a long life but I'm scared as I have no idea what to expect.  I work abroad and leave in a few days and fear this will be the last time I'm going to see her.  I'm so sorry to post this as I know there are many who are suffering at a far younger age, but I'm very close to my nan and just want to reach out here - I'm so confused and don't  know how long I have left with my nan, and think I should be leaving my job abroad right now.

  • Welcome to our forum Jamie,

I’m so sorry to hear about your nan, this must be a difficult time for all of you but please don’t feel bad for coming here and asking for support, that is what Cancer Chat is here for, no matter how old or young people affected by cancer are.

Talking does help and I hope very soon our lovely members will pop here to offer their support and advice.

If you feel like chatting to someone on the phone, please know cancer nurses are available Monday - Friday between 9 a.m - 5 p.m on this telephone number: 0808 800 4040 which is free to call from the UK.

Warm wishes to both you and your nan,
