CLL

Hi, my Dr tells me I have CLL but it is nothing to worry about, he gave me some information on this to read which I have done and quite frankly I am worried sick. I have been waiting nearly 6 weeks now for an appointment to see a haematologist, does anyone know how much longer I shall be expected to wait.

Thankyou Dawn.

  • Hello Dawn52,

Welcome to Cancer Chat! It is normal to feel a little overwhelmed by all the information you get and for it to worry you. Sometimes it helps to actually to talk to someone about it, so I would suggest perhaps that you ring our cancer nurses and they will guide you through it all and help you process anything that you haven't quite understood or that you need clarification on. You can ring them on this free number 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.

We have our own information on CLL on our website here if you want to find out more about it and if there's anything you want to know more about, don't hesitate to ask our nurses.

I am sorry you are having to wait such a long time for your appointment. It might be worth ringing the hospital to find out whether they already have an appointment date for you. I am sure they will be able to let you know how much longer you have to wait. We hope your appointment goes well - do keep in touch and let us know how you get on!

    Best wishes,

  • Hi Dawn I was also told at my GP surgery that I have CLL on 1st march. The wait to see a haematologist locally for newly diagnosed CLL is 8 weeks. The newly diagnosed, urgent cancers get seen immediately, which I guess is good news. I am 48 with 4 kids at home & I work full time so I also am worried but from everything I've read ( a lot!) it is usually a slow progression. We will know more when we have had our hospital appt I guess. I'd be happy to keep in touch to see how we each get on if you like. I live in W Wales
  • So sorry to hear that you have CLL, my husband was diagnosed 10 years ago with it. We were all terrified at the  time, but the illness was explained very carefully to us,and he has not needed any further treatment  so far. He has a check up  once a year at the hospital  and he requests another 6 months later. Obviously we are very aware of the nature of the illness but we have continued to  carry on as normal. We hope that you  have some further information from your medical team soon.  Try not to worry too much  (not easy though).

    Sincerely Chris
