plural effusion

Cancer cells found in plural effusion after aspiration. Anyone?

  • Hello jule123,

Thank you for posting on Cancer Chat.

I can see that you have posted in another area with a bit more information about your situation.  I am sorry to hear about what is happening and I can appreciate that this is a worrying time for you.

The PET scan will give more detailed information and hopefully where the cancer is so I am afraid that it is now a matter of waiting for it to be done and getting the results. I realise that this is not easy to do.

There is some evidence that breast cancer that come backs after initial treatment can have a change in the hormone status.  In studies that looked at the hormone receptor status of breast cancer that has come back it was found that some had a change in the oestrogen status.  Now this might not be the case in your situation and I am not sure if this is something that your specialist breast team are thinking about.  And if this is going to change how you are going to be treated. The U.S organisation Breast Cancer.org have more information about this research, you can see it by clicking here

I hope that this reply is of some use. If you would like to telephone our Freephone number is 0808 800 4040. We are here from Monday to Friday between the hours of 9am to 5pm.

    Take care

    Caroline

  • Thank you for replying, new to this site. The CT scan shows nothing of any concern, blood test ok. Since the aspiration though the right chest muscles are sore...was ok prior to it!
