Mum had Peritoneal cancer 1 year on she has stomach cancer

My mum is early 60's and we have just found out my mum has stomach cancer after being treated for peritoneal cancer last year. She is currently in hospital with fluid in her stomach and lungs. She also has pain in her throat and windpipe and keeps bringing up bile. She is on oxygen too as her breathing is impaired. They have just started to drain fluid off her.

She is very weak and tired. The doctors don't seem to be telling us anything they just keep saying we are waiting for all the results. We have no idea if they are able to treat her. I feel like a zombie I am heartbroken and upset, I'm trying to be strong but I just want to break down. Truth be told I don't think she is strong enough to get through chemo.

Can someone please tell me what can I expect to happen?

  • Hello Dionne, and a very warm welcome to Cancer Chat.

I'm really sorry to hear about your mum's stomach cancer diagnosis; it does sound like an incredibly tough time for you both at the moment. Many of our members will be able to empathise with that feeling of being kept in limbo while waiting for results. Hopefully, someone will be along soon to share their experiences. In the meantime, I wanted to let you know about our Ask the nurses service. They have a helpline that's open Monday to Friday (9am to 5pm): 0808 800 4040. If you'd like to ask any questions about what to expect, please feel free to give them a call.

We're thinking of you both; do let us know how things go.

    Best wishes,

    Helen
