My Dad

I'm sorry I don't know where to start I just need someone to talk to about my dad,he has been Unwell since July,he has had a job to walk,he has lost 4 stone in weight & can barely stand unaided,we have been to the doctors almost every week & been told it was sciatica & given painkillers. On October the 31st the doctors changed over to a new team & they ordered blood tests, this showed possible prostate cancer, after several tests & scans in was confirmed in January that it was prostate but the prognosis was very good as it was localised, with radiotherapy he would have at least another 20 years, while waiting on appointment his normal doctor called him in to say that it was also in his right kidney & we would see a urologist on .the 15th February,we got to appointment & we seen an oncologist insteàd & was told that it is now in his lungs, kidney, prostate, muscle & that his bones have started to crumble in his spine,we were told they would give him 5 days of radiotherapy then maybe do a biopsy if they think it will help, they also said that they will contact palliative care for him.they did not tell us anything else at all.We were in to much shock to ask any questions,we are beyond heartbroken & we don't know where to go from here,my dad asked how long but she didn't answer him, what do we do now,has anyone been in this situation? We feel so lost & scared, thank you for reading I hope someone understands this x

  • Hi Mmichmm2000,

    Welcome to Cancer Chat.

I'm really sorry to hear about your dad's diagnosis and that he's been feeling so poorly. I'm sure many people on the forum will be able to sympathise with how much of a shock receiving this kind of news can be, and that you will no doubt have many questions as a result. Hopefully, someone will be along soon to chat. In the meantime, do have a look around the forum and feel free to join in with other discussions. Please do go back to your father's doctor or nurse contact for more information if you can, too.

You can also talk to our cancer nurses, if you'd like, on freephone 0808 800 4040 - the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

Wishing you, your dad and family all the very best, and that you get the answers and reassurance you need very soon. Do let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,

    Helen
