small cell lung cancer

Hi

Im 43 and was diagnosed with small cell lung cancer in December 16, im on radiotherapy and chemo which is doing its job and i feel fit and heathy otherwise.

Im so worried that after my 6 rounds of chemo are up they will say theres nothing else can be done for me, I'm not ready to die yet im frightened and tearfull most of the time

Is there any kind of hope for this type of cancer?

  • Welcome to our forum lisaljd!

I’m sorry that you were diagnosed with small cell lung cancer in December but I’m glad to hear you are feeling well and that your doctors seem to be on the case.

It is normal to be worried and experience the emotions you are experiencing right now and I hope you will get a chance to talk to some of our members who can relate to what you are going through at the moment.

Also, I thought I might forward some information we have on small cell lung cancer: http://www.cancerresearchuk.org/about-cancer/type/lung-cancer/about/types-of-lung-cancer#small  and if you feel it might help to speak to someone over the phone, please feel free to give our cancer nurses a ring, they are available Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m on 0808 800 4040.

I hope this helps lisaljd, and please remember we are here for you whenever you need to chat.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi,

Firstly, I'm sorry about your diagnosis and of course you will be frightened as you are still coming to terms with the diagnosis whilst having to go through treatment.  I wanted to give you some reassurance though.  My husband was diagnosed with small cell lung cancer in March 2015 after being admitted to hospital with pneumonia and he too had 6 rounds of chemo and radiotherapy.  The treatment worked really well for him and since then he's needed another 6 rounds and he's still here with us (he's a stubborn so and so! :D).  So, in short, the treatment will be there for you and your oncologist will do everything they can for you.

Like you, my husband gets really scared at times and there have been tough days and awful sleepless nights but please know that there is help and support for you here.

    Kind regards
