Waiting for results from Oncotype DX test

Hi all, I got the following results and am hoping someone can share there knowledge or experience if been in this situation?? The results are Grade 3 invasive breast cancer + DCIS=20mm, 0/4 nodes, ER positive, HER negative.

I am now waiting for results from Oncotype DX test which I get on 24th Feb... I can't stop worrying about the results and am trying to prepare myself if I have to have to have chemo. Has anyone had similar experience and what was the outcome?  Every day is like groundhog day, the worry consumes every single thought in my head

  • Hi there DBird

i looked up different chemo treatments last night as I wanted to know why mine goes on so flipping long! It’s apparently called dose dense chemo I think you having that too but I’m having it in a different way. Meant to be much more effective so that’s good isn’t it? We’re you node negative ? Think you were. Did they give you a stage? I got my flu jab and nurse at GP said ‘ooh I do blood tests for chemo patients oh it’s awful treatment poor things.... oh maybe I shouldn’t tell you that!’ Some people!

I also had a woman say ‘oh yes my friend had chemo for breast cancer last year and it’s come back.. she only had a pain in her shoulder’. I told my breast nurse and she said people never say the good news! I’d NEVER say that to anyone!!! I did actually turn to the woman and say.. ‘actually you’ve just made me feel really terrible now’ , and she just grinned inanely and said awwww bless you!!! Grrr! Have to avoid the doomsayers!

Hope you’re feeling ok this Monday... hope it’s not raining where you are.. it’s been quite pleasant today.

Have u got radiotherapy to follow? Sending you the best xx

Not sure if you'll get this. Hope you are right out the other side now?

i just wanted to say a huge thank you. I start x4 sessions of TC chemo next Friday. Gonna try the cold cap. Your info has really helped me get my head around it. I def feel more prepared. And not in a scary way - definite bonus :))

    Sending love. Sarah xx

  • Hi

i had my op on 21st October and told on the 2nd November it was being sent for oncotype test as it had grown from 14mm to 25mm nodes clear.  I'm still waiting does anyone know how long before I find out if I'll need chemo before radiotherapy please

  • Hi Liz,

well I had an onco test in mid-November 2019 and got my results in early December. At that time the hospital treating  me couldn't do the test themselves so a sample of my tissue was sent to Boston USA. This may not be the case now.

So I awaited results for just over two weeks. If tests are now done in the UK hopefully it will be quicker. My score was 9 so I felt relieved to miss chemo and also very lucky.
Wishing you the very best of luck too.  X
    Kebbs.

  • Hi

thank you so much for replying yes my test has also gone to the USA hopefully I'll hear something soon

    thanks again

  • Hi, I found my lump August 3rd.

    Biopsy August 10th
lumpectomy and sentinal node results 28th Sept. then discussed the Oncotyoemdx with me. My cancer went to California and took 2full weeks for the results to come back &the hospital team to discuss in an MDT before I was told on the 12th October.

Im 42 and my oncotype dx came back as 22- I was then referred to chemo oncologist and I've had first cycle of chemo 11th November.

Waiting in between appoitments for results has been the hardest.
100days from finding lump to chemo.
    Try and stay positive.

  • Hi Effie

thank you for getting back to me.  Yes the waiting is the hardest I had my op 21st October, saw surgeon on 2nd November where he told me it was being sent to America.  Just want to know if I need chemo, how many cycles are you having if you don't mind me asking?

I hope your feeling ok and it wasn't too bad, I really hope everything goes well for you

  • Liz, how did you get on? What was your Oncotype score??

im having four cycles of TC chemo ( given TC as I've got hypertension)  I've had two cycles so far and having the third cycles December 23rd. And last cycle Jan 13th.

The sessions are taking longer than I expected (was there 6hours last time ) -the team are really lovely tho.
Ive had a few symptoms but nothing too bad really. Achy joints, itchy skin, Hartburn and lost my hair. So far so good.

    Much love Efffie x
