Prostate cancer

Hi I'm new to this site,I have been diagnosed with prostate cancer. All this has happened so fast over the past 6 weeks. I went to the G P with a urine infection as it turned out to be cancer. We are still in shock with it all. I am 60 yrs old & at the moment it is just playing on my mind 24 7.  Iv had the MRI scan & bone scan  just before xmas & we got the results back after xmas 11 th Jan. Thank goodness they said it had t spread & it appears to be confined to the prostate. Last week I had a cystoscopy procedure done where they inserted a camera into the penis to get into the bladder, they now want me to go & have a biopsy on my bladder as they have found some abnormalities since doing the camera procedure. I have seen the oncologist radiotherapist who discussed the options of having radiotherapy & we have an appointment with the surgeon this Tuesday at the Royal Black Burn hospital to discuss surgery

does anyone have any advice regarding the robotic surgery ( the Da Vinci robot )  to remove the Prostate which they use at Royal Blackburn hospital. At the moment there is just so much to take in. They have said that it is an aggressive type cancer that I have & it will spread & I should do something within & no later than 3 months.  Also does anyone know anything about the Proton Beam therapy that they do abroad, my son has been looking into this as it's not offered in the UK.

I would appeciate any advice or knowledge anyone can give .

many thanks

mike

  • Hi Mike.. So sorry to hear you news.  you are fortunate that it has not spread.  My dad age 79 was diagnosed on tues and it has already spread to the bones.  Unfortuntaly my dad didnt want any prognosis so we are very much in the dark.  Good luck with your treatment.   I have never wanted to help with cancer research so much in my life till now.  Shame it take something like this to make you sit up and realise we need to do something to fine a cure.

  • many many thanks for your kind words & im sorry to hear your news about your dad. Try & keep strong & try & make as many enjoyable memories that you can while it's still possible. Don't let this awful C word take over. All the best Mike
