How long after internal radiotherapy will my mum be a risk to my baby or is she ok ?
Hello
I am sorry I do not know the answer to this. There is a lot of information to take in isn't there. We have been on this journey a while and still feel confused at times. Perhaps if you posted in the 'ask a nurse' area they would be able to help.
Best wishes.
Hello Msserina81,
Thank you for your post.
I don’t think your mum will be a risk to your baby. Depending on the type of radiotherapy your mum is having she will be given guidance on whether she needs to keep away from babies and pregnant women for a few days. Generally speaking for many people who have had internal radiotherapy once they have come home from hospital there are no restrictions, however some people will be told not to be close to babies and pregnant women for a few days. Your mum’s specialist hospital team will be able to advise her so she should just check with them.
I hope this helps. If you have any more questions you might find it helpful to post in the ‘Ask Nurses ‘ section. You would also be very welcome to telephone us on our Freephone number which is 0808 800 4040. We are here from Monday to Friday between the hours of 9am to 5pm.
Take care,
Caroline.
When my mum had radiotherapy I was pregnant and she didn't have to stay away from me or any of her other grandchildren. Recently my dad had a scan involving radiation and he had to stay away from all the grandchildren who were still going through the growing stages. I'm sure they would tell your mum if she had to stay away. Or maybe phone up and ask to put your mind at rest
