DCIS

Hey,

So went to docs after finding lump, after having a biopsy told its DCIS but as it presented with a lump have had to do more biopsys today just to be sure...I have been told the lump will be removed regardless of results next week but now thinking worst and wondering what the normal course of action is if it is invasive?

Any help would be much appreciated.

  • Thank you so much for explaining in details, you have really helped put my mind at ease.

Your procedure seems more like what I might opt for, my concern was the duration of op but 4 hours is not bad.

Thank you, I will let you know how I get on with them come Tuesday.

    Cheers xx

  • Ahh you are welcome - yes please keep me updated :)

    have a lovely weekend xx

  • Was speaking to my son last night and he reminded me that I did have numbness underarms as he had to shave for me - sorry I completely forgot about it. The numbness, according to him lasted about 4 weeks.

I read your other replies and wanted to say that when it came to reconstruction I didn’t want it, I thought it would be too big an operation and I could live with the dents. Thankfully my surgeon ignored me and did it anyway, now I’m so thankful  as I now know how difficult it would have been, given the size of the tissue taken, to live with a constant reminder of cancer.

Take care and hope you make the decision that’s right for you. x

  • Thank you Magpiemaggie, thank God the numbness doesn't last forever.

Yes that's what I thought also about immediate reconstruction but I just don't think I might be able to bear it if I don't have it done.

    Will keep you updated.

    Thanks

    Hi,

My DCIS was in 1 milk duct. I had that milk duct removed plus breast tissue around the milk duct. The DCIS was completely removed. I now have a mammogram once every 2 years and an annual breast ultrasound. So far so good.

Before surgery there was talk of me having a mastectomy or partial mastectomy then radiation therapy.  But after my surgery the surgeon said I did not need radiation therapy.  I had a great surgeon and great GP and I trust their decision. You can always get a second opinion?

I wish you all the best during this stressful time.

    xx

Thanks for your response, I appreciate that you took time out to respond despite its been years since you posted.

I wanted a second opinion, asked my Gp to refer me but he advised it would slow down process because the other hospital will discharge me if they see I have been referred elsewhere.

I am glad you are doing OK, it reassures us newbies. Will update you soon.

    Thanks xxx

    Hi guys,

So I have finally met with my surgeon and will be having mastectomy with immediate recon using expandable implant.

She said Lymph nodes will be removed because of the micro metastatic detected. [@amandajane25]‍ how are you doing so far.

  • Helen how have you been, I have met with my surgeon and will be having an operation somehow similar to yours. How is the operation sight now and hope your mood has improved.

    Cheers xxx

  • Hi AWW- I'm doing really well - I have only had a few 'down' days thank goodness and mostly keep upbeat and optimistic about everything.

My surgery took about 4 hours - so not bad at all.

The operation site looks OK. The scar is a thin red line across my new expanded breast - so not horrendous to look at. I've been massaging bio oil onto it and that seems to help it fade a bit. It's not sore at all - in fact it is numb and awlays will be now. They took the sentinel node out for checking - and this was clear - so that was good news for me - I only have the 1 scar as they used the same incision to get to the lymph node, and I didn't have tissue taken from any other part of my body.

The temporary implant with the saline in still feels hard and bumpy and a little uncomfortable, so the sooner the better I get it replaced with the softer silicone one.

If you need to know any more about the expander implant process let me know and I'll help if I can. Do you have a date for your surgery?

    Lots of Love

    Helen

  • Glad to hear your doing just fine Helen, it's encouraging . And thank you ever so much for explaining in details.

During my consultation today, I was told I will be emptying the drains myself when I get home, is that normal practice?

Yes a date of May 15th has been pencilled down the surgeon said, but l insisted I wanted an earlier date because my diagnosis was since April 2nd and I feel they are moving too slow, which she said she would communicate to me if she could fit me in for earlier.

A biopsy of my armpit showed micro metastatic so I am not as lucky as you are, but surgeon says hopefully they won't have to remove all nymph nodes biopsy done again during surgery doesn't show other nodes being affected .

I feel down at the moment, I guess after every appointment it gets one feeling down.
