Just had a diagnosis of Prostrate Cancer, and have been asked to go for a bone scan. I know there is lots going through my mind just now, but would like some advice from those who have had similar news, and have started treatment.

Hi Gordon,
I was diagnosed with prostate cancer over six years ago. It does make the mind work overtime I agree. I wasl ucky as mine was caught early and have made a full recovery My PSA was high at 70 but after both radiotherapy and hormone therapy, It came right down to 0.01, the lowest they can measure. Even now, four and a half years after finishing all treatment it is only 0.94 less than it was a year ago. .It flutuates a little.
I had a good medical team who were briliant. Treatment has moved forward even since I had my treatment but if there are any questions you have, I will do my best to answer them.
I wish you all the best, Brian
Hi Brian,
Thanks for this. Its quite reasuuring. As you can imagine there is so many things going on in my head just now, but your situation as described, makes me feel a lot better. Cheers.
Regards,
Gordon
Worrying times i know the bone scan will show the oncologist if the cancer has spread outside of the prostate (fingers crossed it has not)the scan itself is painless and quickish.I had mine done about two months ago and my results showed that the cancer is contained within the capsule.
for information my Psa at the time was 47 and i had a Gleeson score of 7. The next step after the bone scan will be to see the oncologists and decide on your treatmantt. Which will be a choice of : Surgery (if your able)radiation, brachathrapy or a trial if applicable. After doing the rounds i chose brachaytherapy and the oncologist put me on hormone tabs straight away
Two weeks after my bone scan I saw the Brachaytherapist and was informed my psa on the hormones was now down to 11 and that that they were going for the 'high dose rate' which involves fifteen sessions of radiotherapy and then the Brachaytherapy which in my case is needles placed into the prostate and a radiation source introduced to the prostate , left in for a short time and then the source and the needles are withdrawn (laymans explanation)this site metions an overnight stay in hospital but I have been informed that I will be in and out in the same day providing urine is okay
Read the information (download on prostate uk )as that was the print out that the consultant actualy gave me at the cancer center. Read and digest and be prepared
I was diagnosed last September and i only had my radiation planning scan on 30th nov and with xmas getting in the way i now have my first Rad. treatment next Weds the 18th
so i have been waiting for sometime to get anything started I wish you all the luck in the world but if you read the factual info you will see that they can cure this and even if it has escaped the prostate it is still treatable and every month new drugs, trials , and procedures are coming out. Let us know how you get on.
ps as of March 2017 all of my treatmants are now complete including Brachaytherapy I have made a log of all of the treatmant and after effects under my blog post.
