My mum has just been diagnosed with lung cancer and cannot have surgery or chemotherapy, she has been given 18 months to 2 years and she has already had 2 chest infections and now she has another so am scared of losing her. My dad died of bowel cancer, my nan died of bladder cancer, as well as my other nan died of blood cancer then my grandad died of a broken heart so there is only me my daughter and my mum left in the family so if you can understand why I am very scared of losing my mum there will be only me and my daughter so please help as I have been very depressed and now I have started smoking to ease my stress. Also I am not very well myself and now just found out I have lost 2stone in weight in 2 months because of my stress.

  • Hi I am really sorry for your bad news!! What a terrible start to the year..

The only thing you can do is stay strong for your daughter because as much as you need your mum she needs you too.

My mum has also been diagnosed with cancer and I feel your pain, it's a heartbreaking time where tears flow more than words.  Cherish the time you have left.. that's what I intend to do.

Try not to think about what life will be like when she's gone because that will terrify you and ruin the time you have left.

Stay strong in this heartbreaking time xxxx

  • I lost my mum this year and I was petrified. it was scary knowing that soon i wouldn't have the one person who was always there. the only thing you can do now is make some amazing memories, take her places she's never been, take lots of pictures together. Just make every moment as special as possible because right now those memories are what's keeping me strong, you need to stay strong! <3 xx

  • Hi Deb I am so sorry that all of this is happening to you what a *** start to the year. Cancer runs in my family as well even I've had cancer but the only thing you can do at this moment in time is be there for her. Don't you just wish you could swap places with them so they aren't suffering. I've been told many times that's life for us. Just breathe and take one day at a time worrying won't get you anywhere or any faster. Some things just happen and all we can do is adjust and move on. I'm always here if you need a chat. Take care dear -Diane
