My dad has lung cancer and I'm struggling to cope

Hello I am new to the forum I've recently found out my amazing dad has lung cancer and there is no treatment being offered as they say chemo could do more harm than good. I'm absolutely devastated and lost and can't imagine how I'm going to cope I have an amazing family and we all support one another but I just can't get my head around the fact I will lose my dad how on earth do people cope with this?

    A big welcome to our forum. I am so sorry to hear that your dad has recently been diagnosed with lung cancer and that he is unable to receive any treatment.

    It's great you have a supportive family and that you are there for one another during this difficult time. Sometimes it also helps to talk to people who are outside the family circle but who understand exactly how you are feeling at the moment because they have themselves had a similar experience.

    I hope you will meet some of our members here who are or have been in a similar situation and that they will be along soon to say hello and share their story with you.

    I'm so deeply sorry to hear about your Dad. It really is the worst news and the hardest pill to swallow! 

    I lost my Mum to stomach cancer last month after her brief battle since being diagnosed in February this year. They said right from the start that there wasn't much that they could do and hearing that news made me fall to the floor, the pain was just too much to bare. I understand how you feel. That initial feeling of dread and disbelief that this is happening to somebody you love so much. You have got some hard times ahead, but I promise you that you will have good days. 

    Try to spend as much time with him as possible and make some wonderful memories.

    You're situation struck a chord with me, I am in a very similar situation with my Dad too, he has Kidney Cancer stage 4, which has spread to his lungs and spine. He cannot have chemo either as due to other health issues it would make him feel even worse.

    We do not know how long he will have, i'm not sure if he does?  

    I am absolutely terrified of a future without him.

    Thank you for your replies, unfortunately my amazing dad passed away on Christmas Eve it came as a shock as we thought we had more time he was only diagnosed on the 3rd Dec. he was laughing and joking the day previous then deteriorated very quickly, I wasn't by his side when he went which really upsets me as I had gone home for the night. I'm absolutely heartbroken and can't seem to get my head around it I miss him so much. Xxx
