cancer of esophagus

My man has just been told he has cancer of  esophagus & has spread to some Lymph  nodes but it is contained & nit anywhere ekse. we go back next week but have no idea what to expect or what  T3n2m1  means. the waiting is terrible  can someone explain what this code means in simple terms please

  • Hi I'm sorry to hear about your fella, I too have oesophagal cancer.  I think i have this correctT3 is the size of tumour which is exactly what I have n2 cancer cells in 3-6 lymph nodes not sure about n1. It is called the TNM staging. I found it helpful getting book about this specific cancer.

Yes the waiting is terrible, I had a few endoscopys and pet scan but tried to keep myself busy,  I know what what the plan of action is for me now, just waiting for it all to start.

Hopefully you get more answers next week when you go in

    Take care both of you

    Donna xx

  • I think that the third letter is m not n and it relates to whether the cancer has spread. The lower the score on all three elements, the better. My man has T3N2M0 oesophageal cancer and had surgery in September so I understand how scary the whole thing is. If you have got to the diagnosis stage, your man has had quite a few tests so I am guessing your appointment next week will be to discuss options for treatment. For us, things moved very quickly from diagnosis straight into chemotherapy, through surgery and back onto chemotherapy. It is hard to get your head or your emotions round it. Wishing you both all the best.
