Rozzie

I'm due to have chemotherapy for the first time and am afraid of side effects. Would like some help from friends here.

  • No probs. I m always here even if it s just to listen. Have you got your wig in advance then? :)

  • Yes. When I got my prescription from the hospital I was advised that if I went to the shop while I had hair they would match my wig to my hair colour.

  • That s fab! If you don t need to use it, it ll be a good souvenir and if you do it will match your shade exactly! Try to keep ur chin up and be as positive as you can. I know how hard that can be but am sure my positivity got me through it! When is your 1st session of chemo? :) xx

  • My first session is 7th November. It's RChop have you or anyone had the same. One of the drugs is Vincristine that possibly causes peripheral neuropathy. Have you or anyone experienced this?

  • I had vincristine when I had RCVP chemotherapy it caused a itching in my nose and bad pins and needles in my feet I did struggle to walk but after talking to my doctor they cut it down to half dose than removed it for one session then put me back on it this did help alot but only started with the pains after about 4 treatments I was having 8 in total

    hope this helps

    xx

  • No, I had 6 sessions of FEC T but I m sure if anyone reading this has had the same they ll be kind enough to come and talk to you about it. In the meantime, don t be a stranger, keep in touch and let us know how it goes. If you want to keep chatting beforehand feel free. :)

  • Thanks for the info Sara. It's really helpful to know what to expect from someone who has experienced it.

I have RA and am already unsteady on my feet so can't afford to make it worse, people will think l am drunk. Haha.

  • Hi Rozzie, it's true what Sue said. We all react differently, depending on what chemo it is. I was terrified, heard all these horror stories, I guess I got off lightly, hardly any side effects at all. I was able to carry on as normal. One thing I did do, was the minute a lump of hair fell out, I took myself straight to the hairdressers and had my head shaved, never looked back. An aunt knitted me some pretty little cloche hats and I wore those for the 6 months of treatment. The treatment nurses are amazing and you will make new friends with other ladies having treatment. We used to have such a laugh. All the thoughts I had built up in my head were unfounded. One day at a time xx
