I am in shock. Stunned.

Im not very clever with this stuff, internet or whatever so I may mess it up. Sorry if I do. I'm the wrong generation.

Got the news today that my beautiful daughter in law is having to undergo mastectomy in two days time. I'm so shocked I can't think straight. She is being very brave. Privately I'm in pieces. She is 29. It should be me, not her. I'm overwhelmed. We are all trying to sound positive for her, but in truth I am panicking we will lose her.

  • Welcome to Cancer Chat Helplessmum although I'm sorry for the reason it brings you here.

I see you mentioned that your daughter in law was having a mastectomy today, how did it go? I hope everything went ok and she is recovering well. There are many members on the forum that are either parents to those diagnosed with cancer or have had experience of mastectomies themselves and I'm sure they will post soon to offer their support but in the meantime do feel free to explore the forum and chat to others who are in a similar situation.

If you get a chance do let us know how your daughter in law got on.

    Best wishes to you both,

  • Hi there Helplessmum, welcome to the forum but sorry for why you're here. I don't have breast cancer, I have other cancers, but thought I would respond to your post just to let you know that we do read the posts and respond when we can. Your daughter-in-law would have had her surgery by now and I wondered how she is managing. She is young and hopefully will recover fully from this diagnosis. Do come back on here to let us know how she is.

Looking forward to hearing good news from you.

    Take care.
