I have just had the formula of my upcoming chemo changed to replace Vinchristine with Velcade. Does anyone know about this as it is supposed to produce a better outlook and is normally used for Myeloma and Mantle cell NHL but usually only in trials.

Hello Bill7,
I just wanted to let you know that I have asked our nurses to comment on your post as they may be able to shed some light on this. They will respond to you in the next few days.
We have some general information on our website on Bortezomib (Velcade) which you can read here.
I hope you will also hear from others here who have received or are currently receiving this treatment.
Best wishes,

Dear Bill7,
Thank you for your post.
Sometimes doctors will replace specific drugs if they think that either the side effects would be detrimental to the patient or if they think that the outcome would be better with the changed drug. However Velcade is recommended for people with mantle cell lymphoma. You can read more about why it is used for mantle cell lymphoma on the NICE (National Institute for Clinical Health and Excellence) website here.
Your specialist doctor or nurse will know much more about your situation and will be able to tell why there has been a change. You are welcome to get back to us if you have further questions. If you would like to telephone our Freephone number is 0808 800 4040. We are here from Monday to Friday between the hours of 9am to 5pm.
I hope you have more information from your team soon.
Take care
Caroline.
