Mother in law has Lung Cancer

My mother in law recently found out she has lung cancer I think it is sclc it has also spread to her brain but only in very early stages and only in one lung which has caused her to have a cough for 3 months and this should have been picked up earlier by her dr.  Does this mean extensive and stage 4.  She has had a full cycle of chemo a week after diagnoses, hasnt lost much weight and is not getting any headahces, vision or other related problems.  She will have 4 months of chemo and possibly radiation depending on how she responds to the chemo and after three sessions together wed-fri this week she is coping really well.  I am just wondering what to expect.  Is this classed as terminal the dr said 2 months without treatment maybe 2-12 months with but all depends on what happens with the secondary cancer.  How long does the chemo keep it at bay for before it would possibly return again?

  • Hi. I wish I could help with more information but I can't other than send you hugs. Just found this site via Facebook after another night awake since 3am with a brain that can't sleep. My partner was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer 6 weeks ago again with a tell tale cough that should have been a clue. We don't delve in to what it means I think it's too frightening to do and for us it wouldn't change anythinh. We have been told he will not make Christmas as the tumour is very agressive and has spread. The chemo seemed to help at first but six weeks in I can see things deteriorating again. We are on 3 week cycles of chemo and the next is Monday. Will know more then.
  • My mum has been told she has cancer in both lungs. Mass in the left lung base and some enlarged lymph nodes in the lower pole of the  hilum also right upper lobe nodule. She is only 54 and I am wondering if you know if it means that it's terminal if in both lungs. She's petrified and doesn't find out until Friday.  I'm so sorry to hear your story it is heart breaking. X
