Helping with early diagnosis

Hi all, I have just joined hoping to seek some advice.

My Mum has just been diagnosed with myeloma but treatment isn't required at the moment, 3 monthly moniter check-ups. I know the diagnosis is not good but is it good/hopeful that it's early?

I've been doing a lot of research but we're all a bit shocked and confused at the moment. So don't know what to expect from now on.

My mum is very set in her ways so very rarely accepts help- wether it's help with pain management or a relaxing day at a spa. Does anyone know of any natural ways we can help ensure she keeps well and focused without her having to physically go anywhere? Any foods or natural remedies?

Thank you in advance xxx

  • Welcome to Cancer Chat BBex.

I'm sorry to hear that your mum has just been diagnosed with myeloma but it's great it has been caught early so the doctors can monitor it. I know you've mentioned you've been researching but I wasn't sure if you had come across the information we have on myeloma on our website. If you haven't you can read more about it here. Also, our specialist cancer nurses will more be than happy to answer any questions you have about your mum's diagnosis and what to expect next. You can call them for free from a UK landline on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

Another member who joined recently [@Lostinheather]‍ was diagnosed with multiple myeloma two years ago and may be able to give you some support and advice about how to look after your mum as well. Now that I've tagged them in this post they will hopefully post soon to say hello and share their experiences with you.

Best wishes to you and your mum,

  • Hi,

my names Heather I was diagnosed with multiple myeloma two years ago. So far I haven't had any treatment yet. I do have good and bad days. I changed my diet totally. I found it helped to buy a juicer. I juice up lots of organic fruit and veg and add lots of supplement powders to help keep my system on top of things. I also gave up dairy. I don't know if this may be of use to help your mum but it has helped my body to keep fighting fit and that way my immune system can stay strong.

    hope this helps a bit.

best wishes and kind thoughts sent to you
