Help please.

Mum who is 79 was rushed to hospital with suspected chest infection last week . Turns out to be lung cancer which has spread to liver. Inoperable . She is very tired and bed bound , losing weight and has had to have a blood transfusion as was bleeding out of chest drain and was also anaemic. She was very down today . The doctors aren't telling us anything they just keep saying they need to discuss her case. We can see how poorly she is and want to know how long we have left with her. She was really healthy until recently and I still feel in shock .

  • Hi it must be a terrible shock but nobody knows how long we've all got,i suggest you just spend time with your mum, help her talk to her be there for her time is the most important quality.J just take each day as it comes one day may be bad the next maybe better and so on do don't think about time left just spend the time you have now with her it will help you both.

Feel free to use this forum anytime there are alot of good people on here in similar situations who can advise you.Dont be alone.

Be strong and sending our best wishes to your mum and yourself.

  • Hi i lost my dad to pancreatic cancer just over a week ago, he was healthy but was tired a lot over the last few months then the doctor said he had flu til he got worse then we only found out he had cancer 3 weeks ago and he couldn't accept it and gave up, we didn't have time to take it in before he died so are in shock still, spend as much time as you can with her. Talk about good times and how much you love her. Sending you hugs xx

  • Morning Patricia, Thank you for the message . I just feel that if I had some idea then I could ask to have time off work to be with her. Since Dad died 4 years ago I have taken her to Rome,Florence and Pisa but we had to cancel Vienna this year as she didn't feel up to it. Now we know why. I can't bear the thought that we will never go now. Her name is Patricia too ! Cathy.
  • My heart goes out to you for the loss of your Dad. Mine died of kidney cancer after 5 years of hell for him. He was on 3 different drug trials. I wish he had not tried them and he had gone without him knowing what was happening. Take some comfort that for your Dad it was quick Cathy.
