Newly diagnosed

I keep thinking that I will wake up and realize that it was only a bad dream!

It all started as I was sorting out my bra one evening and there it was! My heart sank! GP next morning, referral to breast clinic and I was seen in two weeks time. Mammogram that showed thickened lining of a lump in my right breast! No abnormalities in other examined areas, armpit. After a couple of weeks the Ultrasound that confirmed the thickened lining and biopsy there and then. Result came back as abnormal cells, operation to remove the lump and further diagnosis and it turned out to be  Lobular  carcinoma 1cm grade2. Lymph node biopsy was done 10 days ago, they took out one and Thursday 4th is when I get my results

The wait is horrid and the nights are the worst! So whoever is awake do not think you are alone, we are in it together.

all the best to all

  • Hello Nouna,

I just wanted to welcome you to our forum and say that we are thinking of you as you get your results tomorrow. The wait can seem like a lifetime as many of our forum members will know and we are keeping everything crossed for you for tomorrow. Do let us know what the results on your lymph node biopsy reveal. If you have any questions, our nurses are available on this free number 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.

We have some information on our website on lobular breast cancer which you can read here. I have also found some recent threads which may be of interest to you from members who have also been affected by lobular carcinoma. [@Twinpeeks]‍  posted only a couple of days ago here and has experience of lobular cancer.  [@suziesuze]‍  would be another great person for you to talk to and you can follow her story here. Don't hesitate to respond to these threads if you wish as it can help to talk to others who have had a similar diagnosis to you.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi Nouna I am a bit futher along the line than you but i also had Lobular cancer. Please feel free to add me as a friend if you would like any info on the op and what comes next. Everyone is different I know but i can only tell you of my experience so far.

Mine was grade 2  2 cm but lended up being a 4cm by time they took it away and operated. The fact yours is 1cm is a good thing. I have much I would like to share with you. As mine is a recent thing in the last 3/4 months.

  • Hi Nouna

I had my Gp first ruling out infection then thought it was a cyst and even 1st consultant thought that...till i had my mammogram and hey presto the cancer had reared its head....they were all shocked!! I had lobular 1 cm and 2cm and dcis  1cm. The 2nd lobular 1cm size wasn't found till they investigated my removed breast. I had to have mx as when they found the 1st lobular and dcis they were too far apart for a lumpectomy, I feel I was lucky  I wasn't offered just a lumpectomy as I would be going through it all again.

I am now 5months post op and had reconstruction at the same time as mx..which I had a diep procedure and just awaiting minor adjustments to new boob.

I have started on Tamoxifen and have had few side effects but not totally unbearable.

You will get through it , but it's overwhelming and you get so much info thrown at you....just do what you feel is right for you....after all you are this star of this show...not the any of us want a leading roll ;)
