Moi

I am the mother of a daughter who has been diagnosed with breast cancer. She is starting chemotherapy next week and is very, very anxious and angry. I understand all these things but I don't know how to help her. She seems to think I have answers but I haven't and it so painful to watch her.

  • Hello moi,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I am sorry to hear about your daughter's breast cancer diagnosis. It is normal for her to feel anxious and angry after the shock of the diagnosis and for you to feel that it is difficult to know how best to support her at the moment. By coming to this forum you will get to talk to others who are in a similar position, whether they have breast cancer themselves or are also parents of relatives like you wanting to support a loved one. Perhaps you could change the title of your forum thread to make it easier for others coming on the forum to see immediately what the subject of your message is? You could call it for example "daughter diagnosed with breast cancer" or something along those lines.

I hope your daughter's first chemotherapy session goes well next week. We have some in depth information about breast cancer chemotherapy here which may answer some of the questions she may have before starting treatment. If you live in the UK, you can also ring our nurse helpline on this free number 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm and our team of nurses will be happy to answer any question you may have.

Very best wishes to you and your daughter,

    Lucie, Cancer Chat Moderator
