Prostate cancer spread to bone

I have been On firmagon for 3 weeks . I was diagnosed with prostate cancer which metastasized to my pelvic bone in 2 spots .  I am now awaiting results from a pet bone scan , does anyone out there have any information on how well this firmagon works and for how long ?  The side effects with hot flashes have not been too bad but yesterday I played golf in 90° weather and I felt out of breath  at times . I am 68 years old and basically in Great health except for this prostate cancer .

  • Hi Dannyboy,

I have no knowlege of Firmagon but zoladex worked very well for me. It brought my psa down from 70 to 3.18 before my radiotherapy started. I wish you well, Brian

  • Hello dannyboyFmh4080,

Welcome to Cancer Chat and fingers crossed for your pet scan results. Do let us know when you receive them.

We have some information on our website on Firmagon which is also called Degarelix. You can find out more about this hormone therapy drug here including its side effects. Hot flushes seem to be a very common side effect occurring in 1 in 4 men but it is mentioned in our information page on Firmagon to "let your doctor or nurse know straight away if you feel breathless". So it might be worth giving your doctor a call and mentioning the breathlessness you experienced to them.

    I hope this is helpful!

    Best wishes,
