Mum has Lung Cancer

Hi

I am new to this group but am feeling a bit lost at the minute  .  My mum has recently been diagnosed with Lung Cancer , she is 73 but never smoked in her life and was still working up till 3 weeks ago.  She also  has COPD   from her years working in the textile industry when younger

She was taken into hospital with bad chest infection last week and has been on intravenous antibiotic since then and only talks in a whisper due to the cancer   She is too week for chemo at the mintute to slow the cancer down this may give her two years , if she doesnt have it one year maybe . She seems to have good days and bad days from eating normal food one day and then yoghurts the next   I this what to expect now  for the time she has left ?

  • Hello LADYLINDA3,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I am so sorry to hear you mum was diagnosed recently - it must all still be a shock to you. Hopefully, you will meet others here who may have been affected by lung cancer and who may be able to give you an indication of what to expect though sadly this can be a bit unpredictable and vary from one person to another. It can help, however, to talk to others and share similar experiences.

I hope your mum recovers quickly from her chest infection and that she regains her appetite. If you have any questions or need to talk things through with our team of nurses, don't hesitate to give them a call on this free number 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. They are very friendly and will be happy to advise you on anything.

Best wishes to you and your mum,

    Lucie, Cancer Chat Moderator
