Types of treatment

This is my first attempt in joining a forum, so here goes.

I have just been diagnosed with prostate cancer and have not been too pleased with the way I have been treated in regard to types of treatment . It was basically this is what you will have and that was it. My own research, well my children's, found that a treatment called HIFU. Has anyone tied that?

  • Hi theoldcontroller,

Welcome to the forum although I'm sorry to hear about your diagnosis.

I'm sorry you haven't had a reply yet but I'm sure any of our members who have tried that treatment will pop by soon to share their advice and experiences with you. I know you and your family have done some research already but just in case you haven't explored our website yet I have found some more information about the treatment here.

Also if you are based in the UK you could call our nurses tomorrow and see what they have to say about HIFU as well. You can call them for free on 0808 800 4040 and they are availble Monday - Friday between 9am - 5pm.

    I hope this helps.

    Kind Regards,

  • Hi,,

    Welcome to this friendly forum.

I also was diagnosed with prostate cancer about seven years ago. I was only offered hormone therapy and possible radiotherapy as my psa was high at 70. I was told I was not suitable for any other ttreatment and that may well be the same in your case. Some doctors dont explain these things but I was very lucky in that mine was very informative. Also as I understand it HIFU is still a fairly new treatment that is still being assesed.

I responded well to my hormone therapy and my psa was only 3.18 when I started radiotherapy and a few weeks after finishing r/t it came down to 0.01; the lowest they can measure. Even now four years after finnishing all treatment, it is still only 0.91. I have been very luck.

If you need to chat I will be happy to talk to you. wishing you all the very best Brian.
