suspected lymphoma- what happens after spec referral?

Hi. I've been let down by radiology and gp surgery in that it look a long time after referral errors to finally get in for an ultrasound, whch I had last Thursday. This Tuesday there was a panel meeting to look at my sonogram, and they thought probable lymphoma. I chased the results all week and finally my GP saw me on Friday. I'm concerned that she didn't refer me to a specialist until this Friday, even though the decision was made on Tuesday -- I'm so cross, and feel incredibly let down.

My question is -- what happens next? What was your experience? When referred, did you see a specialist first, and then they ordered tests? How long did it take after referral for you to have a CT scan? And how long for the biopsy? How long did it take for people to get diagnosed after GP referral? Hearing about your experience would be really really appreciated. Thank you.

  • Hi Amerexpat16,

I've today been diagnosed with lymphoma, I waited 3 weeks from having a surgical biopsy. Before that I went to my GP with something else and sent me for an ultrasound scan, they sent me for an MRI the same week then a few days later I got a letter to tell me to go for a CT scan, then sent me for biopsy then I waited 3 weeks for results, all in total it's taken 6 weeks.

I was calm today but the last 3 weeks was hell not knowing if it is or isn't it?

I now need to have a bone marrow biopsy this week and more blood tests before I start chemotherapy next week. Gutted.

I wish you well and let us know how you get on?

Or any questions you might have?
