Hi there, diagnosed with spine cord cancer

Hi

my friend 18 years old had been diagnosed a tumor in his neck and had 38 days of radiation. During the therapy his hair started to fall on his nack and he lost some much weight and during this time he had a high fever. But after that it showd up on his lower spine and now he is  having problem with walking especialy with his right leg because on his neck it was on the right side and he has some much pain. Hes drinking some folk medicin and hes starting again with therapy. Any advice please.

  • Hi ValmirJ,

I am sorry to hear about your friend and his radiotherapy treatment.  Unfortunately hair loss and weight loss are a common side effect of the treatment.  The high fever may have been due to an infection which hopefully has got better.

From what you say it sounds like the cancer has spread but because I am not involved in your friend’s care I cannot be sure of his situation. Because the cancer is affecting his spine this is likely to be the reason why he has some difficulty in walking and has some pain.  You say your friend is drinking some folk juice, I don’t know what this is so he really needs to let his doctors know he is drinking it.  But the therapy you also mention will hopefully help improve his symptoms and his quality of life.

I am not sure if your friend lives in the UK if he is it is likely that he is being supported by specialist nurses and doctors.  If he lives overseas it might be helpful to contact a cancer information organisation in his country, we have a list you can see by clicking here

I hope this has been of some help to you.

    Caroline
