New to this...

Hello

my lovely mum (67) got diagnosed with a sarcoma cancer in her womb 2 weeks ago, it's terminal, rare and aggressive and it's in her lymph nodes too.

She was managing on morphine but she was given weeks to live if she didn't have chemo.

she had chemotherapy - doxorubicin - yesterday, then she was really ill, she seems better today, very tired and not eating much but she got up and dressed although it took her a long time.

I don't really know what to do for the best. I'm so tearful at the thought of her not being here anymore but I realise she could live for ages if the chemo works and shrinks the tumour but the reactions to chemo were so awful.

Is the first chemo the worst? She is having treatment weekly to ease symptoms.

xx

  • Hi Joey,

The first chemo session can be pretty bad for side effects. Your Mum's team will be able to give her other medications to help reduce the impact - as long as she tells them about it. That last part may seem obvious but a lot of us suffer the side effects at first, thinking that they are normal.

I was on a different chemo regime but found that the infusions made me really exhausted for at least 24 hours. I got into the habit of sleeping for a long time almost as soon as I arrived home from chemo.

  • Thank you Dave for replying.

My mum feels pretty rubbish today, keeps being sick and food tastes funny and she is also incredibly tired and sad. But I'm trying to be positive and I also think she is doing too much, people keep wanting to visit and that's exhausting in itself.

one day at a time. It's exhausting already (for all of us in a different way) and this is only the start!

    best wishes to you.
