Bowel and Liver Cancer at 33

Hi all,

At the age of 33, I was diagnosed with bowel cancer on Wednesday 20th April 2016, I went straight in to have some of my bowel removed along with the cancer. Unfortunately it has spread to my liver and I go to have my care plan discussed tomorrow.

I have no support network where I live (offshore), only my wife and 2yr old. My wife needs to continue working so I'm thinking of moving back to where my family live to go through any treatment.

How much of a support network will I need to beat this?

Regards

Lee

  • Hi everyone, just checking in.

As my biopsies from the bowel didn't give them all the information needed I had to have a liver biopsy which I was panicking about.

I have to say it was no where near as bad as I thought it was going to be

The team contacted me yesterday to say that they now have enough information from the biopsies to move forward again now.

I have my first appt with the oncologist next Thursday so I hopefully will have a plan.

I'm ready to kick *** now and get on with it xxx

    Will speak again soon x

    Sending hugs to everyone x

  • Hi everyone

Been to see my oncology doctor today , I'm having a picc line inserted next Tues then starting folfox next week.

Glad to be getting on with some treatment xx

  • Hi Hayley how did the picc line go??

    Julie x

  • Hi julie

the picc line went in ultra smoothly. No problems , I was amazed how well the "magic cream " worked.

I've had it in just over a week now and so far has been ok . I did have a few palpitations on the day of having it in but they have settled now .

Also had my first cycle of folfox last week again with no problems. I'm waiting on some further testing on the biopsy to see if they can add another drug that is targeted  (I think it's called kras test )

Saw the nurse specialist today who has altered my analgesia as I'm still getting pain from the liver area and feel better this evening from it x

How are you getting on xx

    Hayley

  • Good x I'm glad it all went well, I've just finished chemo number 6 which was surprisingly easy, probably the best one I've had, ive been getting some pain on my right side which I'm hoping is my gallbladder and not my liver! Will mention it to the dr nxt wk, I'm looking forward to finishing chemo and having a little rest x 2 more to go! I've used the magic cream for the last couple as my veins are rubbish and I have to say it makes it 100 times better! I'm feeling a bit anxious about my nxt scan already and it always knocks my confidence when you hear of  people dieing, I feel so sorry for dans family to loose him so quickly and so young life seems so unfair x I hope your treatment continues to go well and is kind to you x take care, julie xxx

  • Glad to hear your getting on well Julie x

Yes I was devastated when I read about Dan I can't believe it. It's really scary.

Will this be your first scan since starting chemo ? Do you know when it will be yet ? I will keep my fingers crossed for you and hope that it goes well xx

    Love hayley x

  • Yeah first scan!! Should be sometime towards the end of September xxx
