Bowel and Liver Cancer at 33

Hi all,

At the age of 33, I was diagnosed with bowel cancer on Wednesday 20th April 2016, I went straight in to have some of my bowel removed along with the cancer. Unfortunately it has spread to my liver and I go to have my care plan discussed tomorrow.

I have no support network where I live (offshore), only my wife and 2yr old. My wife needs to continue working so I'm thinking of moving back to where my family live to go through any treatment.

How much of a support network will I need to beat this?

Regards

Lee

  • Hi Hayley,

Nice to meet you - sorry bout the diagnosis, but as we're all on the same ship let's see of we can all sail out of this in one piece!!

Look forward to hearing your updates, & I hope you will encounter good news on your travels

    Dan

  • Thanks Julie - over the infection now looking to start Round 2 on Friday of next week

  • Brilliant news mate, brilliant! I'm glad your Chemo isn't brutal as you do hear stories of people reacting badly to it - the next steps now are to see if they start shrinking, that's exactly what I'm aiming for same as you - do keep us updated on possible future shrinkage, and I hope the treatment stays as bearable as it has

    Speak soon mate, Dan

  • So after having the PICC line for just under a week, I can safely say that it's been the worst part of my treatment so far. I can't straighten my arm as the line pulls, my arm fills up with fluid so I have to have it elevated, it's painful when I try and sleep! Absolute nightmare. I told the Dr on Friday that I wanted the port put into my chest so hopefully that is being arranged!

    How is everyone getting on?

  • Hi everyone,

My case was discussed on Friday in the mdt meeting.

The biopsy results from the colonoscopy I had were inconclusive the 5 samples showed high grade dysplasia.

The next step for me is that I am waiting for a liver biopsy I haven't got a date for it and I'm not looking forward to it either.

My liver area feels really sore and swollen so I'm being a wimp about having needles stuck in it.

It has only been 4 weeks since I had the ultrasound that discovered the liver tumours and all the scans and colonoscopy have happened in the last 2 weeks but it seems like forever.

    Anyway enough whinging.

Lee I hope they sort your picc line out as that sounds unpleasant x

Dan sorry to hear about your new infection hope you clear it up and escape from hospital soon x

    Hayley x

  • Hi all,

Been in for my immunotherapy and an MRI today. As feared yesterday, I have a blood clot just above the end of the PICC line. I now have to have daily injections of a blood thinner to keep it under control.

It's been agreed that I will get a port put into my chest so hopefully this PICC line might come out by the weekend!

Hayley, stay positive. It's the best advice anyone can give. I've had a bit of a down day today, burst into tears while driving to pick up the wife but just thought about how I'm going to kick cancers ***!!

    Speak to you all soon

  • Hi guys, just checking how everyone is doing? I've finished chemo number 5 today :0) the nurse did say that the more treatment you have the more u feel the side effects and I think she's right! I've felt pretty *** for longer with this one ! I did take my children away for half term and sometimes think maybe I try to do to much as I try to keep things as normal as possible for them. I have found staying positive difficult over the last few weeks and keep thinking about my next scan which won't be until the end of September! I don't know about you but I feel like I've got a black cloud over my head that's never going to go away. It seems that every where I turn cancer is there, people I know and on the bloody TV all the time :0/ I don't want to leave my girls without a mum

  • Hi Hayley.

Sorry to hear your feeling down about everything, I'm pretty much feeling the same.

Since my last post, I have 3 blood clots in my left arm and had a portacath installed. I'm on daily injections of Fragmin (dalteparin) which is making me feel absolutely awful. I get breathless after standing for less than 5 mins or putting a load of washing in etc. It's been so difficult to try and look after my 2yr old.

Hope le you feel better soon and get your fighting spirit back! We will beat this x

  • Hi lee thanks for the reply hope your feeling better soon x I was due to have chemo number 6 on Thursday but that's been put back a week because my bloods weren't good enough! Talk about prolonging the agony!! I should be grateful though as up until now everything has ran smoothly, I have my Mind set on the magic  number 8 just need a big load of determination and willpower to get there!!
