Extreme tiredness

Hello.

I had lumpectomy and sentinel lymph nodes removed 12 days ago. All is healing well but I'm just constantly tired still. I can't do much without feeling like I need a nap. Has anybody else felt extremely tired at this stage?

I will be getting my results on Friday. I'm worried about this, don't know if that's having an effect on my lack of energy?

  • Hi cherylann

I hope your are healing well after your operation.I didn't have a lumpectamy but a mastectomy instead this January. I remember being very tired for a couple of weeks.Which is normal after an operation.

But I do think it's more than that.Worry stress lack of sleep and accumulation of everything that's gone before your surgery adding to your tiredness perhaps?

Your certainly not alone with how you feel. And it's ok,be kind to yourself and give yourself time.Im sure the worry is playing on your mind and only making matters worse. If it's a real issue talk to your breast cancer care nurse who may have tips to help you cope.with your fatigue.

I hope your meeting goes as well as it can on Friday. I will think of you.let us know how it goes.

    Good luck

  • Thanks for your reply Ness.

I'm healing well which is a positive. Its just dealing with the fatigue,  I'm usually such an active person so the tiredness is getting me down and I feel I shouldn't still be feeling like this. I attempted work today for a few hours this morning and it's made me feel even worse.

It helps to speak to people who have been through it so thank you for your response.

How are you doing now? Are you still having treatment?

  • It's no problem

It does help to talk to people to understand. There are lots of ladies here who have been through or are going through the same. It's a lovely supportive forum.

I'm the same, very active always on the go.And on bad days frustrated that I can't do things.I get upset when I have to watch my husband be mum and dad and I see my youngest ask for him more now and it hurts at times.

But I do have days and weeks too that I feel 'normal' and when I can do things then I do! I'm not working though I decided 3 kids and cancer treatment was enough I will go back when I'm ready

I'm in the middle of treatmwnt.I'm 9 days in on round 4 of my chemotherapy.I'm having 6 altogether and 15 sessions of radiotherapy followed by 5/10 years of hormone tablets. I'm doing ok,I have bad days some times all I could do was sleep but it passes...it's doable.

Do you know if your having any further treatment? Have theyou mentioned anything to you?

  • Love your name by the way it's very pretty!

  • Hi Cheryann

Tiredness is very normal, especially as its only 12 days from big surgery. Your body is using all its resources to repair the damage.  And you need to rest, so dont push your body, be kind to yourself, this will last for a few months before you start to pick up again. At which point you will have really ok days interspersed with days of fatigue. Worry plays its part too as it affects your sleep, hoping your results are good. Kim

  • I was supposed to be getting my results tomorrow but I've just had a call to say they have been delayed another week :( more waiting.

My surgeon mentioned radiotherapy and possible chemo but won't know for definite till I get the results.

If you don't mind me asking what type/grade/stage of BC were you diagnosed with?

  • Thanks for your message Kim. Have just had a call to say my results have been delayed which I'm very disappointed about. The waiting is difficult. Hope all is well with you

  • No I don't mind at all

I had two tumours both given a stage 2.After mastectomy one was stage 2 grade 2 and the other was stage 2 grade 3.So one was more agressive and faster growing and that more agressive cancer had been surrounded by pre-cancerous cells. So I have no doubt in my mind mastectamy was the best option for me.

It was also estrogen led ductual breast cancer in situ.

I'm sorry to hear you have to wait for your pathology meeting.waiting just sucks!!

Try and take some comfort knowing that nasty cancer is out of your body now.

The treatments are belts and braces.

Rest and be good to yourself.

    Take care
