Mum has been diagnosed with ductal and lobular breast cancer

Hi im new to this site and very new to the word Cancer.

my 72 year old mum has just been diagnosed with ductal and lobule breast cancer mix and it has already spread to her lynyh nodes under her arm. The consultant said the lump in her breast is 2.5 cm in size.

she has to have a bone xray, ct scan and 6 months of chemo.

I really dont know what to say or feel at the mo. Can anyone advise me on if the mix is unsual, or how do we find out what grade this is, and why haven't she been offered a mastectomy , the consultant seemed like he only gave us information if we asked the question.

Any advise would be good

  • Hello Mandy73,

Welcome to Cancer Chat! I am sorry to hear about your mum's diagnosis and I hope you can meet others on this forum who have also been diagnosed with ductal and lobular breast cancer.

Given your mum's specific situation, perhaps you could give our nurses a ring on this free number 0808 800 4040? You can talk to them Monday to Friday 9an to 5pm and I am sure they will have some useful information to share with you. You can also ask them any question in the Ask the Nurses topic area on our forum.

    Best wishes,
