Cervical cancer newly diagnosed

Hello all i was diagnosed with stage 1B2 cervical cancer last week with possible lymph node involvement. Ive been told that I will not have a hysterectomy and instead will have chemoradiation- has anyone else experienced this treatment? Im so worried and really don't know what to expect. Im also a smoker and desperate to give up but seem to be smoking more than ever and have previously tried quitting but always started again. Any advice would be great thanks everyone xxx

  • Hello - I was diagnosed with cervical cancer in 2012, stage 2A. I did have chemo and radiation, no hysterectomy.  I want you to calm your fears; you can do this.  I had 5 rounds of chemo, 28 or so rounds of external radiation and six rounds of internal radiation.  It kicked my butt, but I did it; I got through it, it wasn't that bad.  Do we want to go through it? No. But can we do it? Yes.  I did not lose my hair although it thinned from stress when I was done with treatments.  It is back to normal now. I was also a 35 year smoker at 2 packs a day.  I was able to quit; I used e cigs and then just never went back to it.  Seeing the people in the chemo ward also helped me quit. Let me know if you have any questions or just need some support.  You can do this!
