just new

Hiya I have just been told I have non Hodgkin lymphoma .I am waiting to to hear when my treatment will start.  I feel so frightened and alone.

  • Hi WeeJean

I had a diagnosis of lymphoma on 9th Nov 2015 - mine was on the side of my face - very healthy up until then (still see myself as healthy). Whole range of emotional including some midnight panic attacks.

I was treated at the West of Scotland Cancer Centre  - which was fantastic  - however it was also upsetting to see other clients that looked unwell there.

Had Curative Radiotherepy  over the New Year, and recently had follow up appointments with both Haematologist and Oncologist - both really happy and lymphoma is no more,so next follow up in 6 months time.

I still have problems getting my head around i have/had cancer.

There are likely to be a load of questions you want answers to, so make a list of them - and take a close friend /partner along to your appointments.

There is support both on here and a Lymphomia website

  • Hiya tommc. Thanks for answering me. I have been told I will be getting chemo .  Just worried about the unknown  I think.  I worry every time I get a pain any where in my tummy that's where the tumor is.

  • Hi WeeJean

Sorry that your treatment is going to be Chemo - i cant comment on that - but i am sure people that have gone through this will support you.

WE all deal with this disease diffrently. You are still at the stage where you handed you health need over to someone else to make decision on - i personal found that this stage difficult to deal with - as i had no control.

My previous CT scan from Dec 2015,indicated a few tiny abdominal suspicous spots in the abdomen - to small to explore, so i am on a watch and wait programme now.

There are times that i still have a slight panic  - a couple of weeks ago my routine bowel screen  - came back with blood, with plenty of reassurance from Oncologist that these tests can and do have a high false postive rates - the test was repeated, it came back completely clear. Similar to yourself every twinge /back pain i get - i think is this it???

It is times like this you need support  from friend /family - sometimes just to get rid of the emotional build up. Use this forum,a lot of people on here have undergone both chemo and radiotherepy, so get advice from the horses mouth (no insult intended) :-)
