Hair loss- Scared about chemotherapy

Recently ive been diagnosed with stage 1a non-hodgkin lymphoma and the oncologist said I will need chemotherapy, the only symptom I have is knee pain , it is localised and had the pain for about a year and inconistent so it is not aggressive. I would prefer just to have radiotherapy to that region as the side effects for chemotherapy are horrible and just want to get on with my life as I am 20 and in my final year of uni.

The drugs I think im having are R-CVP, has anyone had this for lymphoma? My worst fear is permanent hair loss, not just head hair but facial, legs, chest etc. Does R-CVP cause permanent hair loss ? Does hair grow back normally after chemo ends or will I have patchy head hair and facial hair forever. I dont want to sound melodramatic, shallow or weird but my hair is a big part of me and cant imagine life without it.

Thanks

Dan

  • Hi i had chemo in 2009 and did not lose my hair, and then again i had chemo 2014 i used the ice cap to save my hair i had to wear it 1hr befor treatment while i had chemo and 1hr after it .and yes it did save my hair so have a look and see if you could benift from the ice cap.I was also able to go to work feeling normal. It helped me deal with treatment in a possitive way.No one could tell   i had been ill .People mean well but can kill you with kindnesss. So speak to nurses for advice.Speak again .Susie10
