Necrotic tissue around the tumour

Hi my brothers just been diagnosed with throat cancer, he went to have a biopsy done last week, and the doctor said it was necrotic.  Whilst i know necrotic tissue is dead tissue, is this a good sign in cancer

Thank you for your posting. It isn’t really a question of whether having necrotic tissue is a good or bad sign in cancer.

Tumours (cancer) need a blood supply to grow and will invade and use tissue nearby to do this. As a cancer evolves and grows, it can have different areas of tissue matter depending on how it is using blood vessels around it. So it is possible that a cancer that has formed can have necrotic areas that form part of it.

So you cannot really read anything into this as such, it is just the appearance and content of the tumour (cancer) at the moment.

I hope that this is helpful.

    Best wishes
