Hi Babs
Really sorry to hear about your sister.
There are two main types of lung cancer small cell and non-small cell but unfortunately the outlook is not good for either once it gets to stage 4 - that means that it has spread to other parts of the body.
the numbers are here if you want to see
www.cancerresearchuk.org/.../statistics-and-outlook-for-lung-cancer
Of all the people diagnosed with lung cancer only 2-13% survive 5 years or more hopefully she'll do well under the chemo and be one of that select band.
Babs 12. I think stage 4 cancer is terminal. However that does not mean that your sister will not respond well to her chemo therapy. Also she should ask if there are any trials currently open which she could access. There is always hope. Take care
