Bowel cancer with secondary lung cancer

At 66 my mum has just been diagnosed with bowel cancer. Whilst still reeling from this news her CT scan revealed secondary lung cancer.

We haven't had time to come to terms with any of it and already she's booked in for removal of the primary bowel cancer next week.

Can anyone offer any advice/experience of these combined diagnoses? The doctor wanted us to concentrate on the bowel cancer first and foremost, but we have little in the way of prognosis.

  • Hi there, I'm sorry to hear about your mum. It does sound promising though that they are going to remove the primary cancer though. I hope all goes well.

  • Hi Johne, welcome to the forum, but sorry for why you're here. I have lung cancer, secondary to colorectal cancer. I was first diagnosed 6 years ago and at that time, I had a colon re-section followed by chemo. Unfortunate, I was unable to complete the chemo treatments because I got too sick. Then two years later, I was diagnosed with seconday lung colorectal cancer. I have had two major lung re-sections since then and just recently, had a series of radiation treatments on my lung. In between all this, I was diagnosed with bladder cancer, (not related to the colon and lung cancer)  which I continue to be treated for.

I am older than your Mom and I'm still here and overall, not doing too bad in between treatments and surgeries, etc. Stick with you Mom and support her through this.Come back on to the forum and let us know how things go for your Mom.

Good luck with everything. Take care.
