newly diagnosed small cell lung cancer stage 2

I am 66 years old.  Last month I found I have small cell lung cancer.  Not sure how I feel yet.  It doesn't seem real. I have completed my first set of chemo. In one week I go for my next set. I have read about this type of cancer and it doesn't sound good.

  • Hi there, I'm really sorry to hear this. It's hard to deal with the shock of finding this news out. How did your first lot of chemo go? I've read more about non small cell lung cancer and it doesn't look good, however stage 2 is not too far along and the treatment may well work wonders for you. Keep your chin up and fight it with all you have. I hope you have lots of support around you?

  • Carolyn: I was in that same situation August, 2012 and was totally freaked for a few months until I realzed the only choice I had was to go along with the program the  oncologist proposed of radiology and chemo.which began mid October, 2012. After 37 weekly radiology treatments combined with weekly low and high doses of chemo. From approx. May 2013 chemo continued  at various strenghths and times until January 2015 after several ct scans (every 3 months) indicated no progession or sign of  cancer . Every scheduled  ct scan (next one 2/8/2015)  still leaves me in an anxious state of wonndering if it may have returned.  From my experience here is what I hope for you - - 1.-Please, please listen to your doctors and work with them - 2. Keep a positive attitude - 3. smile, sing and dance - 3. Avoid negative people around you - 4.Enjoy every day.   This experiecne you are about to venture into  is not easy with uncomfortable side effects and don't worry if your hair falls out it will grow back.If there is any way I can be supportave lease feel free to reach out.    Oh, and since Sunday is Valentine's day I'm sending you a big hug.

  • I love to hear a success story. Well done you, you kicked it's butt!

  • Thank you for responding.  I have a security post with family and friends but noe with cancer. My first set of chemo went well.  I felt extremely tired with some pain.  My cancer, small cell lung cancer stage 2, is very easy to spread and hard to contain. I am a Christain and believe that God can do miracles. Thank you for your support.

  • Dear Putka, your reply is so full of hope.  I believe that a sense of humor can help you through life's worst times. God is with me through this. Although I know times will get worse, I believe that God will guide me. I am keeping a positive attitue through this.  My family and friends are a constant support through this. What scares me most is the unknown. I hope you and the others will offer me strength through this.

  • It's really positive it has been diagnosed at stage 2, that's quite unusual for lung cancer. You have a good chance of beating this, all you can do is stay as positive as possible you can kick its butt ! We're all routing for you!  I'm interested to know, what symptoms did u have to make u go and get checked out ? Xx

  • Last October I was diagnosed with bronchitis.  None of the standard meds worked, No antibiotics, breathing treatments. I kept getting worse.  I finally told my husband I knew something was wrong and he took me to the er.  I had chest exray where they found enlarged lymph nodes, they took CT and found 2 masses on top of my right lung.  Then found 2 masses on top of right lung.  There were no other masses in my body,  Thank you Maria.

  • Wow, u was lucky it was stage 2 then, I mean I say lucky and your certainly not lucky bless u , but my mum had lung cancer, she was coughing they thought it was plurecy, then she went away but no better went back a few times till in the end they sent her for an X-ray thTs when they found it, but mums was very advanced by then so I don't really think she had a chance . My dad has recently been diagnosed too his is advanced too, but he starts treatment Thursday. You have a better chance though let us know how u get on x
