Cervical Cancer

Hello -

I was diagnosed with stage 2A cervical cancer 3 years ago.  I had 26 rounds of external and 6 rounds of internal radiation along with chemo.  Due to a bleeding event prior to my diagnosis I was not able to have surgery. I know how scary a diagnosis can be, the treatments, waiting for results,  the recovery.  If anyone would like to ask me questions about my experiences, please do so. Obviously everyone's cancer is different and only doctor can give medical advice,  but sometimes it helps to talk to someone who's been through it.

Prayers to all that are facing this disease.

  • Oh Dawn...that’s definitely not the best way to do it...as I learned! You need it to build up in your system, because it becomes much harder to shift the pain if you let it take hold. I would recommend taking the maximum dose allowed in a 24 hour period to try and keep the pain down.  xx

  • I hope you manage to get it under control soon.  Xx

  • Thank you il try that hopefully they will kick in, ive never experienced pain like it, I can remember you saying that the pain was take your breath away pain, it definitely is xx

  • Yes, I was sometimes bent double with it and it was just awful. I was taking the painkillers when it started but then they would take ages to work so went onto taking them at the prescribed doses throughout the day to keep it at bay as much as I could. It wasn’t perfect, but it was better that way. But if the co codamol isn’t enough even doing that, you ca get something stronger from the doctor. Hope you can get some sleep tonight. xx

  • I'm wondering if you can help a small lump has been found on my cervix iv got a two week referral which is next Monday. However I also have many of the symptoms. I'm just wondering how to take my mind off it as its torturing me ATM

  • Sorry I can't be of much help but I was in a state whilst waiting on my results and the doctor prescribed me something to try and keep me a bit calmer.  It did help me but would prob depend on ur doctor.  I also found a couple of good books and started a new box set to try and distract me.  I was signed off work so I wasn't used to being at home with nothing to do when kids were at school.  X

  • Hi Kay

It’s very difficult waiting to be seen and thinking all sorts, I was prescribed some anxiety medication from the doctor as it happens, just while I was waiting for my appointment because I had gone to her suffering with anxiety for other reasons, but it did help. Everyone says keep busy and distracted although than can be hard. I used a mediatation app on my phone called Headspace which makes you concentrate on breathing and being calm, and I watched a lot of tv!  It’s impossible to know what will be discovered at the appointment, but whatever it is, worrying now is not going to change the result. You say you have many of the symptoms, so I assume you mean symptoms of cervical cancer, but lots of gynae symptoms are something other than cancer, and while some people have a lot of symptoms, some people don’t so it’s impossible to make a prediction on what might be wrong. Just take a day at a time and try not to let your thoughts run away with themselves. It’s not long to wait now. x

  • Thank you for your advice. The symptoms I have have had gynae input and had surgery to see if it was to do with anything else they said I had mild endometriosis but shouldn't be causing this

  • Thank you for advice will speak to doctor. I'm OK when at work it's when I'm at home

  • You could have a cyst on your cervix, it could be something hormonal. All I would say is don’t rush to a cancer conclusion immediately. x
