Cervical Cancer

Hello -

I was diagnosed with stage 2A cervical cancer 3 years ago.  I had 26 rounds of external and 6 rounds of internal radiation along with chemo.  Due to a bleeding event prior to my diagnosis I was not able to have surgery. I know how scary a diagnosis can be, the treatments, waiting for results,  the recovery.  If anyone would like to ask me questions about my experiences, please do so. Obviously everyone's cancer is different and only doctor can give medical advice,  but sometimes it helps to talk to someone who's been through it.

Prayers to all that are facing this disease.

  • Hi Laura.

I keep seeing replies from you on many posts. It's very reassuring.

I am 26, I have two children 9 and 5. My periods have always been weird due to being on the implant. But I think in December it lasted a few days longer than normal. Fast forward to this month, I had my period as normal. It lasted around 10 days which is normal, then 4 days later I started bleeding again and bled for a week. Classed as spotting as it was never enough to wear a pad or anything. I phone my GP, explained everything and she didn't seem too worried. She booked me in for my first smear (haven't had one due to Covid) and also said she'd take some swabs 'to be on the safe side' (don't know what they're for?)

Since speaking to her I've noticed I have lower back pain in a morning which eases off throughout the day. I have groin pain pretty much constantly, it's just a dull ache and I also noticed I had stomach cramps the day after having sex. Te cramps were pretty painful. They eased off in the evening.

I don't have any smelly discharge, no bleeding during or after sex, no bloating, I'm not off my food and I don't think I've noticed any changes in bowel movement either..

Just looking for some reassurance really. My smear is booked for 10th March but I'm ringing to ask if they can bring it forward. I'm due on on the 10th march and all this worry is really affecting me.

  • Hi, sorry I didn't see your post until now! I hope you are doing well and you've found out what is going on. At your young age I wouldn't think your issues would be cancer related but it is always good to follow up and keep tabs on things.  Please message me if you need to.

  • Oh you poor thing..but your hubby is right-they absolutely know what they are doing and it takes time to set up all the treatments. I was thinking the same way as you when I was waiting to get started...imagining it was getting worse etc, but it wasn’t, and I was 6 weeks from diagnosis to treatment.  I know people who’ve had to wait longer than that. I’m doing ok thanks-a bit tired after having a visitor for the weekend but it was lovely. xx

  • Hi, hope you are well, did your bleeding stop?

  • Hi just want to wish you all the best for today xx

  • Thanks very much.  I've been in and out.  A bit concerned as she asked me to do lots of breathing in and out and not sure if that's cause for concern or not.  Wasn't expecting to have buscopan and a dye put in via a cannula but prob good I never knew lol.  How r u? Xx

  • Hi I had a dye put in for my ct scan it's a weird sensation isn't it, I'm not doing to bad thank you, got my oncologist appointment on the 5th to discuss the treatment plan so waiting again at the moment, hope everything goes well well for you xx

  • Thank you.  Hoping for the best outcomes for both of us.  I've been on both this and jos forum and both have been a godsend through all this.   ️Xx

  • I'm on jo's as well the women are such an inspiration, I don't know what I would have done without their support and reading there success stories xx

  • I hope your appointment goes well today.  I had my news on Wednesday and I'm not able to get a hysterectomy.  So far we know it's stage 2 but they are concerned about my lymph nodes as one is inflammed so waiting for an appointment with the oncologist and also a PET scan now.  Xx

  • Hi glad you have had your appointment at last and it's a lower stage, Ive been told today that because I am stage 4 it's not treating to cure it's treating to control the symptoms with a cocktail of chemo first then take it from there, praying my body responds and I can have a good quality of life for many years to come ! Xx

  • Hi Dawnann,

sorry to hear that I can imagine that must have come as a shock considering what u were told previously.  I personally know of some people who have had stage 4 and are still here many years after in fact my auntie is over 20 years.  I will keep everything crossed for you.

    xx
