Feeling Scared

Hi everyone, I'm 31 and I was diagnosed in November with invasive breast cancer grade 3 triple negative.ive had 2 surgeries and I'm due to start chemotherapy in a couple of days which I'm scared to start as I'm a mum to a 2yr old and I don't have many people I can relay on for help as family and friends live far and have full time work commitments.

  • Hi lou84,

I'm so sorry that your going through such a hard time.Finding child care has also given me a headache but I'm lucky I have family close and my husband for support also.

Have you asked the mcmillan nurses for advice?I know they can help with any aspect of your care and that includes helping with childcare issues etc.

I hope you can manage to find some support

Thinking of you and always around for a chat x

  • hi lou84

so sorry to hear what you are going through. I was diagnosed with invasive breast cancer in december and had surgery just before Christmas, still waiting on the results and feeling very scared myself. I also have a 2 yr old and would be in the same boat as you if my lovely mum hadn't cancelled her long-awaited 8wk cruise to help me as my husband works shifts and doesn't drive. I was told about a grant you can get for 100 pounds if you are alone to help with child care, travel expenses etc. There is also the Citizens Advise Bureau who have a dedicated cancer/Macmillan depatment to help with benefits, money management etc. They really helped when my dad got Leukemia a few yrs ago.

    Hope this helps xx

  • thank you nessemo3 for replying and the advice I'll ask the McMillan nurses to she if there is any support available.I did ask my health visitor and got told there isn't any support available with helping with childcare as my partner works.

Same applies to yourself if you need someone to chat to also x

  •  thank you also nixylix for the reply and advice. I'm going to chat with one of the McMillan nurses to see if they can give me any advice. Im sorry to hear you have also been newly diagnosed and waiting for results its very scary I'll be thinking of you and hope they come back with good news as in the surrounding merging are clear and your lymph nodes are too.

please contact me if you need a chat x

  • Hi Lou84

Im 34 and  have a 2 yr old (and nd 4 yr old) and have been diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer. My family are quite close by so can help with childcare. My husband works shifts but can get time off to help if needed.

I think your best bet would be to speak to the McMillian nurses and or the citizens advice as the others have suggested.

I'm around if you want a chat xx

  • Hi Lou84

How are you? How are you getting on with the chemo?

The Dr is talking about starting mine at the end of next week. I'm really scared
