uncle Diagnosed with Liver Cancer day before Xmas

Hi

My 82 yr old uncle was called in by the hospital the day before Xmas eve and was told he has two tumors on his liver one measured 18 and one 30 .

He feels great which the consultant said could mean he has secondary cancer .

He has to go for a colonoscopy which last time nearly killed him ....said in the new year But I was wondering why they told him so quick .

He lives 50 miles away too so that's a worry .

Any advice would be appreciated

Thank you

  • Hi and welcome!!!    I too have secondary cancer in my liver.  I presume the tumour measurements you mentioned are mm?

There is no advice I can really give except to ask if your uncle could be aneasthatised if he had difficulties having a colonscopy before.  Also if they are going to take liver biopsies - for me that was particularly painful and distressing awake and I am a really brave bunny lol!!!

Please remember that it is possible to have liver surgery and ablations on the tumours.  I have had a resection but that may be quite brutal surgery for someone more elderley.  I have also had nanoknife which is a really easy and safe ablation technique you can google.  It is not available on the NHS though.

Wishing you and your Uncle all the very best.  Please let us know how he gets on x

  • Hi, ceals, so sorry to hear about your uncle.  Was probably a bit insensitive to give him bad news shortly before Christmas. As Max has said you can have a colonoscopy done with a general anaesthetic - I have had two.  They will probably make some excuse, but do insist.

At least your uncle has you caring for him, but 50 miles is a long way and must be worrying.  I wish you both all the best.  Do let us know how he gets on.
