Hi, Cem, I had read that too and asked my oncologist.  She said peritoneal cancer is related to an original cancer, mine is therefore related to endometrial and a friend who had bowel cancer 5 yeaes ago has been told it is related to that.  As I understand it you only get peritoneal cancer if they havent caught the primary or secondary in time.  Mine is no attackibg my bladder and bowel.

Hi Pauline4, went to the urologist this week and found I have a primary cancer in my right kidney, and the peritoneal cancer is secondary. This was a huge shock, as none of the other consultants I saw told me about the cancer in my kidney!  Anyway I'm having the kidney and lymph nodes & the mass on my peritoneum removed on the 24th December, yes Christmas Eve!!!  Not idea but the surgery wants to do it ASAP.

Hi, yes that must have been a shock, but having changed hospitals last week my new oncologist has told me that peritoneal cancer should be dealt with quickly, so you are at least getting things done as early as possible . All my cancers have been left for far too long now to do anything about them and I have been referred to my local hospice for pain relief and care.

My wife had Primary Peritoneal Cncer and yes that is closely tied to ovarian cancer - actually some researchers think that up to 15% of Ovarian is actually misdiagnosed PPC.

There is a link with some forms of peritoneal cancer and industial manufacturing (especially where asbestos may be involved) and that can be a big player in these cancers in men.

Still it sounds as if your cancer is not a primary peritoneal but a secondary so we're talking about something different here.

I would imagine that you're likely to be put on a course of chemotherapy after the operation, certainly my wife tolerated this very well with just some flu-like syptoms a day or two after treatment and was able to live a very normal life otherwise.
