My partners niece has just been diagnosed with a neuroendocrine tumour on/next to her cervix (after having her first smear test at 24).

I've tried searching for this but can only find neuroendocrine tumours relating to the lungs, bowel, and pancreas - not the cervix. It's meant to be rare, over 60 age bracket so gaining information is not easy.

Does that mean it's spread from somewhere else? is this the only tumour, the list of questions is endless - MRI on Tues / results Weds. so hopefully some answers then.

Has anyone had any experience of this? Many thanks.

    Scan is due this afternoon at 4pm and I feel sick (screaming inside). It's a total body scan and then you ask why? Do they think this is a secondary tumour and if so, where is the first??? Appointment tomorrow to get the results. Everything changes then. I'd swap places if I could.

    Been thinking of you today and sending best wishes. I always have a full body scan, it's just to check the cancer hadn't spread elsewhere.  It seems that nearly every cancer is 'rare' these days - two of those I have are considered rare.  Research has moved on in recent years and treatment is so much better now so please be positive and, as Lucie says, please come back and let us know how things are.

    Thank you for your replies and support - apologies for any confusion, it's my partner's niece, not me.

    A friend at work said her husband had to have a full body scan after initial diagnosis to check the cancer hadn't spread so I can breath and see this as the "norm". Would still trade places with her at the drop of a hat.

    Hoping above all hope that her results are "good" if that's not a daft thing to say and it hasn't spread anywhere else. Hate the fact that she lives so far away.

    At least she is getting her results quickly, I normally have to wait for my next appointment with the oncologist which is 2 weeks at earliest.  I think most of us wait that long so at least she wont have to worry too long.  Best wishes.
