Welcome to Cancer Chat. As someone who had prostate cancer and who made a good recovery, I would just say that if your husband has been put on active surveillance, It has been caught early. I can understand your feelings but please be assured it should be okay. My psa was high at 70 and it ended up the lowest they can measure after two years on hormone therapy and 37 radiotherapy treatments.  They will keep a close eye on things. I know it sound scary that they are not offering any treatment but most treatments for prostate cancer have side effects so they will only offer them if your husbands psa starts rising. If you need to chat about anything, I will do my best to help.

Thanks for you kind words. We are sort of over the shock of the statement you have cancer (most days). My husband, 44 yrs, went to GP with totally unrelated issue and ended up coz of blood in urine and psa test of 3.66 ended up having various other tests. A further 2 psa tests of 3.79 n 3.73 resulted in a biopsy. They suggested surveillance, gave us a week to digest it. We obv have gone with advice as he is a young man and any treatment has big side affects. Due for MRI scan Jan and another psa. Think what is bothering me most is I can't believe my husband is still smoking! Eating unhealthy, like he doesn't care. We have 2 young children, mortgage all the things people have.

suggest you ask yr doctor about brachytherapy. your husband is young and low psa. its the biopsy that tells the story, so with that the doctor can give you choices. brachytherapy works as well if not better than other methods (so far) .

of course here in north america, until you have a score ( gleason) of 7, they will just monitor him as he may only have a 6, which will preclude doing anything here ( Canada)

if caught early, can be fully killed off from the body and he will be cured,  yes cured.

thyroid cancer is curable, so is prostate cancer.

the key is containment also.

Yes biopsy was done also. We await MRI early Jan and further PSA test. My husband's consultant refers to Canada's research all the time. We are going to enjoy our xmas with our beautiful children and see what January brings. Still worrying but we will learn to live with it I guess.
