Paula new to site

Hello everyone I am new to the site. I was recently diagnosed with a malignant melanoma after having a mole removed.  I am having a wider incision on the 30th Nov.   My consultant was lovely my Gp has been fab. The plastic surgeons also very supportive.  However on the day I was given my diagnosis my "named cancer nurse" was on leave so I was given all the very helpful information and told "Jane" would phone me on the Monday. She did but! She was not helpful she was very dismissive of my cancer saying it was small she would be very suprised if anything comes of it. I mentioned the forms given to me by my consultant and was asked to complete.  She said oh yes if you any worries fill it in and return to me but you probably wont have any. I asked what do I do now she said well if you want me leave a message and I'll phone you back. I havent!!! X

  • Liking all but one person from your team so far is brilliant!  Usually it is just the odd few who we take to and not the other way round.  Generally this nurse has contacted you when promised, given you the information you require and told you how to contact her when needed. Sounds like she was trying not to worry you unduly.

Maybe you should say that you feel she seemed dismissive and ask her to explain why. Also, maybe there is another nurse you relate to more who you could ask to see?  Good luck with everything, please let us know how you are doing x
