Colon Cancer Diagnosis.

Hi all, after being diagnosed with Colon Cancer about 2 weeks ago i am stii a bit in the Dark as to how things will pan out. I had the CT scan and was told over the phone that the tumour has gone through the colon wall into the abdomen. and I cannot yet be operated on. I dont even yet know what stage it is except that it is T4 . I have an appointment to see the Colon Surgeon in about 10 days time but have yet to speak to the oncologist. I am hoping the appointment for him comes through soon. Seems dd to have the surgeons appointment befre the oncologist especially after being told I need to take Chemo first to try to reduce the swelling. Anyone else came across this?

  • Hi Tom,

Welcome to the forum (I see you've had a warm welcome from JB on your other thread too.)

I had a similar pathway to you in that I saw the colorectal surgeon before the oncologist, even though I had chemo/radiotherapy before surgery. The surgeon explained the staging of my diagnosis and talked about the surgery I would have, following the chemo. I then went on to meet the oncologist who explained the chemo/radio side of things.

Your ten day wait will seem like an age! It's the waiting times that get to us all! Use the time before your appointment, to jot down any questions you may have, but please avoid 'Google-itus' (we all do it,) as certain websites will just cause you unnecessary worry! Stick to trusted sites like CRUK or Macmillan if you want to gather information about your diagnosis. Or give the nurses on this site a call.

As JB has said on your other thread, do come on the forum to let off steam, rant or ask for support. It's a friendly and supportive place.Take care and do let us know how you're doing.  Jo x
